Meteor Shower
Once a year, the heavens puts on an exciting light show. (August 12th 2007 is the big night, look to the sky !)
The shooting star display is caused by comet dust entering the earth’s atmosphere most of it burns up, but sometimes it hits the ground at breath taking speeds. There’s been about 21 recorded deaths
in around the last 100 years from meteorite strikes.
Some of this icy material enters Earth’s upper atmosphere at a speed of 133,000 miles per hour but burns up almost instantly and at a safe distance from the planet’s surface.
