Electricity May Be Interrupted Today As CenterPoint Performs 'Load Shedding'By: Jamie Mock on Wed, Feb 2, 2011NewsERCOT, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, has requested CenterPoint Energy perform load shedding today, temporarily cutting power for short periods of time to avoid longer-term outages.The need for the load shedding was caused by increased power demands due to the cold weather that has gripped the state.Some parts of Fort Bend County are already reporting "rolling blackouts" and reduced power availability.Power outages should last 15-20 minutes each as CenterPoint Energy alternates outages across the region, according to a statement issued this morning by the Fort Bend County Office of Emergency Management.Anyone experiencing power interruptions for more than 45 minutes should notify CenterPoint Energy at 800-332-7143.ERCOT operates the electric grid and manages the deregulated market for 75 percent of Texas...
