The two magnificent rock-cut temples of Ramses II on the west bank of the Nile at Abu Simbel in the land of Nubia are among of the jewels of the ancient Egyptian architecture, and of the most famous in Egypt.

The great temple dedicated to the sun god, Re, the god of Thebes Amun Re, god of Memphis Petah and Ramses II himself, the small temple is dedicated to his wife and goddess Hathor.

You can visit Abu Simbel either by bus, or by flifgt, but if you travel by bus you have to catch a convoy and be escorted by tourism police which departs at 4:00 o’clock in the morning.
