The Great Appalachian Trail winds its way 544 miles through Virginia. One important AT access point is Sky Meadows State Park In Virginia, not far from Washington D.C. giving urban dwellers a natural wonderland only about an hour away.
The rolling pastures and wooded areas of the park are beautiful and offer visitors activities such as hiking, horseback riding, primitive camping, picnicking, and fishing. Note: Sky Meadows State Park had primitive camping sites only. There are no traditional campsites or RV sites.
