The E5830 has three buttons, power, 3G and WiFi. You power the device first and then push the two buttons to start connecting and serving WiFi signals. The E585 uses one button to turn it on and it automatically turns on WiFi and connects to the internet via the 3G or HSDPA.

So apart from these, the basic function of the E585 and E5830 is the same. To share your 3G connection with up to 5 WiFi devices.
The Huawei E585 is not perfect. I wish that there is a way to change the Network Profile without logging in to the web-based admin interface, but this is just a minor gripe, and in no way makes it a deal breaker.
So, instead of using different SIMs on different devices - why not use one, the Huawei E585? You can always change the SIM depending on which network coverage is better in your area. Would I recommend it? YES! There are alternative devices available, but so far, this one fits in my pocket.
