If you are involved in a dispute involving personal injury and feel you are entitled to compensation, you need an attorney with skill and experience you can trust. You also want someone with a reputation for getting results, since most insurance companies know which attorneys will go to trial and which won't. "Many times an insurance company won't pay the true value of a case until you're on the courthouse steps," says Newport Beach trial lawyer Fred Sayre. "Often you have to call their bluff, and be willing to use your resources to take the case to trial.". Sayre has practiced law for more than 24 years in California, and has tried over 150 jury trials. His firm is comprised of thirteen associates and one partner, specializing in large damage personal injury cases. Sayre is what is known as a "lawyer's lawyer"", an expert litigator who is frequently called upon to try other attorneys' cases for them. Most notably, he was hired by Milton Grimes to litigate the Rodney King civil case, which resulted in a $3.8 million dollar verdict against the City of Los Angeles. Sayre's participation in that case led to another high-profile case involving a large-scale freeway accident near Fort Worth, Texas. Sayre's willingness to put up $300,000 of his own money to produce a riveting video re-enactment of the accident resulted in a settlement totaling $12 million. In 1999, Sayre settled a case in Kern County for $7.6 million involving a collision in which five undocumented aliens were killed and one was critically burned. Also in the last year, Sayre settled a case against the MTA (Metropolitan Transport Authority) for an accident, which occurred in Los Angeles in which two mothers, also undocumented aliens died. This settlement was for $2.9 million. This year, Sayre has filed a class action lawsuit in St. Croix United States Virgin Islands on behalf of Black and Hispanic Virgin Islanders who were discriminated against by the Federal Government in a rural home loan program. Recently, he also filed a class action lawsuit against UCI for misusing the bodies of individuals who had willed their bodies to UCI under the University's Willed Body Program. On March 29, 2000, Sayre began selecting a jury in a lawsuit on behalf of 400 investors who lost their pension funds in the First pension scandal against Coopers and Lybrand, an international accounting firm. The firm was the CPA for the promoters of the First Pension Fund. The promoters were prosecuted criminally by the Orange County district Attorney's Office, and were put in prison. Coopers & Lybrand is being sued for damages by Sayre for aiding and abetting the fraud of the promoters. Besides Mr. Sayre's Newport Beach Office, Sayre operates the law firm of Sayre & Chavez in several other cities. Hi s partner Fernando Chavez is the oldest of Cesar Chavez. The Mexican Government has officially designated Sayre and the firm of Sawyer & Chafes to be the attorneys, counselors and advisors to several Mexican consulates in the State of California, including Santa Ana, San Jose, Sacramento, and Los Angeles. Sayre & Chavez are also opening an office in Washington, D.C., under the name of Sayre, Chavez and Morrison. That firm will serve the Mexican Embassy in Washington, D.C. A sought-after speaker and lecturer, Sayre is frequently invited to speak at legal conferences, including a recent lecture for the state Trial Lawyers Organization's annual convention n the subject of class action abuse. He has also lectured for industry groups such as Trial Lawyers for Public Justice and Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles. "I believe the law is still a noble profession,"says Sayre, who is extremely dedicated to the clients he serves. By following our principles and ideals and approaching each case with a sense of compassion and fairness, we as lawyers can use our expertise to help victims of wrongdoing receive appropriate compensation."
