Requirements: Required skills Work Experience General" Three (3) years with the last five (5) calendar years of experience in an environment of significant ADP systems development activity for administrative and business related computer systems applications development and analysis. Specialized" One (1) year within the past three (3) calendar years of intensive and progressive experience in the database software administration using the Oracle Relational Database Management Tools or similar commercially available Oracle database management products. Please note that General and Specialized Work Experience may be earned concurrently. Educational Requirements - The minimum education requirements are a 4-year bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a curriculum or major field of study which either (1) provides substantial knowledge useful in managing large, complex Automated Information System (AIS) projects, (2) is closely related to the work to be automated, or (3) is in Computer Science, a physical science or a mathematics-intensive discipline. Directly related non-degree college-level study may be substituted for general experience (unless otherwise indicated in the skill category description) at a rate of one (1) year of study for six (6) months of experience. No more than four (4) years of related college degree may be used to substitute for up to three (3) years of general experience. Three years of recent (within the last five (5) years) specific NETPDTC systems knowledge experience may be substituted for the four -year degree educational requirement. Specific Job Description The Jr. Database Administrator (Oracle) performs database software, database software installation, operation, optimization, and administration functions in support of applications which are administrative or business oriented in nature, using current site installed versions of Oracles Relational Database Management Systems. Participates in database administration with emphasis on database security and access control, performance tuning, software loading, backup and recovery, and load balancing. Applies database administration principles and methods to arrive at automated solutions for Oracle developed AIS applications. Standard Job Description Implements and maintains smooth operation and physical design of databases. Reviews database design and integration of systems, provides backup recovery and makes recommendations regarding enhancements and/or improvements. Maintains security and integrity controls. Formulates policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management, and monitors transaction activity and utilization. Responsibilities include: database loading; development and management of operational procedures; environment management; database health (e.g. monitoring, proactive and reactive responses); resource planning; database upgrade planning; backup and recovery strategy planning and implementation; environment transition planning (development, test, stage, production). Security Clearance Public Trust Typical Minimums Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education.
