The date is December 25, 2009, and an unassuming 23-year-old Nigerian boards a plane in Amsterdam that is bound for Detroit. Nobody takes this passenger to be anything other than another poor soul having to travel on Christmas day. The man is pleasant and well educated and not someone that anyone would suspect as a suicide bomber. Regardless of what others may or may not think Northwest Flight 253 was Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab's target and his mission was to make December 25 a day of morning for the infidels. His brothers in Yemen have prepared him for this day, now it was only a matter of fulfilling his part and enjoying his days in the afterlife.

Abdulmutallab spends about 20 minutes in the airplane bathroom as it approaches Detroit, and returning to his seat he covers himself with a blanket. Passengers that once though he was only another traveler hear popping noises, smell a foul odor, and some see Abdulmutallab's trouser leg and the wall of the plane on fire catch fire. Fellow passenger Jasper Schuringa, a Dutch film director, jumps on Abdulmutallab and subdues him as flight attendants use fire extinguishers to douse the flames. Abdulmutallab is taken toward the front of the airplane cabin, with burnt trousers burns on lis legs. He is asked by a flight attendant what he had in his pocket and he replies: "Explosive device.” The device consisted of a six-inch (15-cm) packet which was sewn into his underwear containing the explosive powder PETN which became a plastic explosive when mixed with the high explosive TAPN and a syringe containing liquid acid.

Message from Muttalab is a fictional book based on the true story. Elatuyi takes you to a time and place after the attempted bombing and introduces you to Muttalab, the man accused of the attempted bombing. Read Muttalab's story and being to wonder if author Elatuyi doesn't in fact have it right and ponder Muttalab's message. Is Mattalab's message a message of war or peace.
