Some fellow students who has never had a health regime have found it hard to believe that anyone can live without eating meat, and that I should tell others how to do it and what it takes to do it as they will be others who would like to do it but don't know or what to do.
People are shocked to learn that it is not only the fact that they eat meat that causes their illnesses, but it is also about how the meat is prepared, e.g. boiled vs fried.
They are tremendous benefits in not eating meat, e.g. dead animals. We should love animals not eat them, which is good for the planet.
They will also be some health benefits in eating meat for people who are starving and those who might need a high protein diet, but it is about not eating it for eating it sake and also how you prepare it.
This is just one aspect of a health plan that contributes to illnesses and early death, but they are a number of other aspects to healthy living, e.g. your state of mind or mindset and exercise, which will greatly enhance your quality of life and can even prolong your life.
The first place we need to start to change our lives is in our mind; this is the most important step in healthy living. It is not just for people who have a weight problem but for everyone who likes to stay fit.
Being a vegan for more than 25 years and an active person who is considerably healthy has tested my mind to the max. Will power is our greatest tool in the fight to be healthy and live long.
There is a lot of people who jog or walk every morning, play sports with friends, which is socially a good thing or they are people who love to go to the gym. They are a number of reasons why people workout, but probably the main 3 reasons why people workout is because,
1. The first is that they might think that are overweight and they think that the only way to lose those extra pounds is to same time working out in the gym.
2. The second reason might be that they are underweight and the only way to add extra pounds is to have more calories in their diet along with working out.
3. The third reason might be that they are just doing it for fun and to keep that person in shape and give them an opportunity to socialize.
The best exercise plan should have cardiovascular and weight training exercises. This helps burn calories and increases the muscle to fat ratio that will increase ones metabolism and gain or lose weight, but as always you should first consult the doctor before undergoing any form of exercise.
Some of the health benefits of exercising;
• It is the easiest way to maintain and improve your health from a variety of illnesses, diseases and even premature death.
• Studies have shown that a healthy regime of exercise and diet can make you feel more happier and increases your self esteem preventing you from falling into depression or anxiety.
• An active lifestyle makes will help you live longer than a person who is inactive, e.g. couch potato will pile on the pounds faster.
It is advisable to workout regularly with a reasonable diet, e.g. 20 - 30 minutes a day walking, jogging or going to the gym, for your personal regime you should probably find a few stretching exercises that you can do in your own home to start off with.
You should consult with a Doctor or a health professional to really help plan a good health plan program. It starts by evaluating the lifestyle and the health of the patient before any program can be made.
After this is thoroughly discussed and recommendations are made, which usually consists of an eating health plan and an exercise program that does not require the use of supplements or one to purchase any expensive fitness equipment.
A good diet should have food from all the food groups.
This is made up by 2 things. The first is carbohydrates. The food that a person consumes should have vitamins, minerals and fibre. A lot of this can come from oats, rice, potatoes and cereals. The best still come from vegetables and fruits since these have phyto-chemicals, enzymes and micro nutrients that are essential for a healthy diet.
The second is fat which can come from mono and poly saturated food sources rather than animal fats. Since fat contains more than double the number of calories in food, this should be taken in small quantities to gain or lose weight.
Another way to stay healthy is to give up some vices. Most people smoke and drink. Smoking has been proven to cause lung cancer and other diseases as well complications for women giving birth. Excessive drinking has also shown to do the same.
For people who don't smoke, it is best to stay away from people who do since studies have shown that non-smokers are also at risk of developing cancer due to secondary smoke inhalation.
All in all it starts with the right mindset in the idea of a healthy lifestyle and to achieve this you need a health regime tailored to your needs for a long and happy life.
