What is an embedded system?
An embedded system is various type of computer system or computing device that performs a dedicated function and/or is designed for use with a specific embedded software application. Embedded systems may use a combination of ‘Read-only' as well as with ‘Read-Write' based operating system. But an embedded system is not usable as a commercially viable substitute for general-purpose computers or devices.

What is Embedded Software?
Embedded software is the software that is included in products, rather than running on desktop PCs or workstations. The applications of embedded software range from small, stand-alone systems such as those found in appliances, to the real-time, networked systems responsible for the control and performance of cars, aircraft, and production plants. Over 99% of the CPUs being produced are used in embedded systems, and embedded software determines an increasing share of the functionality, appeal, and complexity of a product, from cellphones, to automotive engine control systems.

How are Embedded Software's different from Desktop Software's?
Limited resources characterize embedded software like time (real-time behavior), power, memory, and bandwidth. Embedded software also needs to achieve a level of quality far higher than that demanded from most other software (nobody wants to reboot their fridge, nor their brake controller).
Embedded software also requires a different way of thinking from "desktop software". In desktop software the fundamental notion is sequentiality: the computational model consists in the sequential execution of instructions; concurrency (the use of parallel threads) is used sparingly. In contrast, in the real world, and in the systems controlled by embedded software, things happen concurrently: in a car, the four wheels spins and the motor runs, all at the same time. Consequently, the fundamental notion in embedded software is concurrent behavior of the software, and of the system that the software controls

What is an Embedded OS?
An embedded operating system is the software program that manages all the other programs in an embedded device after initial load of programs by a boot loader.
