Maroon PR said Wednesday it added the United Football League to its client roster.The Marriottsville-based firm will be responsible for generating exposure for the UFL's Orlando franchise as well as UFL Commissioner Michael Huyghue.

The company did not disclose how much the deal was worth but did say that their monthly retainers range from $4,000 to $10,000.The four-team UFL will kick off its season in October — the latest startup football league to take on the NFL, a giant on the U.S.

sports landscape.

The XFL, owned by wrestling impresario Vince McMahon, didn't succeed, and the NFL folded its development league in Europe in 2007.The UFL has been in the news this week as a possible home for former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, who served a federal prison sentence for running a dogfighting ring and is now awaiting reinstatement to the NFL.Richardson and Maroon PR President John Maroon — baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr.'s longtime publicist — met with UFL officials in New York about three weeks ago.

Its deal with the league runs through this year.Richardson said that the UFL is not going to attempt to compete with the NFL, and that the league is more focused on underserved football markets in the U.S.

Four teams — in Las Vegas, New York, Orlando and San Francisco — will compete in the UFL's inaugural season.Richardson said the UFL is a good fit from a public relations standpoint because of its focus, as well as the experience of former NFL executives working with the upstart league."The business model is definitely not a one-and-done type league," Richardson said.The UFL's Las Vegas franchise signed former Buffalo Bills quarterback J.P.

Losman to a one-year deal Tuesday.There has been speculation that former NFL star Vick may sign with a UFL team.

The former All-Pro could sell tickets, Richardson said, as long as he made the right decisions off the field and worked to rehabilitate his image.Maroon PR also said Wednesday it added Legacy Direct, an athlete management firm, to its lists of clients.
