Browse > Home / Articles & Features / Legendary pitch man Billy Mays dies Legendary pitch man Billy Mays diesJune 28, 2009 by Jackson NJ Online Staff Writer Filed under Articles & FeaturesLeave a CommentBilly Mays, legendary salesman who built success for brands like Oxy Clean, Orange Glo and other home care and restoration products died this morning in his home in Tampa, Florida at the age of 50. Mays found success over the years pitching items on Home Shopping Club and television informercials, becoming one of the most popular "pitch men" in recent history.Last year, Billy Mays began doing parody commercials for ESPN in which he parodied himself pitching ESPN's online service as a tool for men at work in their offices saying that it's the revolutionary tool for watching sports.   In recent years, newcomer to the sales industry Offer Shlomi, aka Vince Offer, the ShamWow guy to a pitch off. The pitch off that would have put Mays' Zorbeez against Offer's Shamwow.Earlier this year, Mays was cast in the Discovery Channel's reality television show, "Pitchmen" featuring a behind the scenes look at the life of pitchmen. In one episode, Mays dangled from the bow of the HMS Bounty for nearly 20 minutes while pitching a product for a short one minute spot, highlighting his dedication to both his career and the products he pitched.   Mays always claimed that he was indeed a user and fan of any product he pitched.The cause of Mays' death at this time are unknown pending an autopsy to be performed Monday.  Share and Enjoy:Tags:
