AdvertIf your only exposure to this ivory pounding gal has been through her song, A Thousand Miles in the film, White Chicks youre in for a pleasant surprise with her 2004 album, "Harmonium." Despite efforts to belittle certain songs she has written herself, its hard for anyone to argue with her musical flair.

Her second album, "Harmonium" establishes Vanessa Carlton as a true vocal talent and skilled pianist.

Considering that Vanessa writes her own music, she deserves an ample amount of recognition - not only for her excellent writing ability, but also for the gift of having these kinds of words and thoughts floating around in her head.

Her lyrics are filled with shall we say rather large vocabulary words, which indicate intelligence as opposed to using foul and meaningless filler, which practically makes a public spectacle of a musical artists stupidity.

Obviously this is not the case with Carlton.

The words she uses to express her thoughts are deep, meaningful and have a certain stick-to-itiveness.

White Houses and Whos to Say are the best songs on the entire album.

They are both well-written and matched with relatively catchy background music.

Afterglow has a strange sort of "pondering your life style to it.

Its a very strong piano-focused melody, complemented by a sort of sad, yet content mood.

San Francisco, Private Radio and Papa arent bad, but they certainly do not live up to the better songs on the album.

Half A Week Before The Winter strikes one as a rather strange and experimental song, while Annie and She Floats completely lacked just about everything it needed.

"Harmonium" as a whole is a fine album, maybe even worthy of your buck if you enjoy her style of music.

Even if you are not personally into her mellow-jazz music, if you enjoy easy listening and interesting writing, this wouldnt be bad bet.
