Armstrong, 37, put his aspirations for an eighth yellow jersey on the backburner - at least until next year - supporting Astana teammate Alberto Contador over the final stages of the race, helping the 26-year-old Spaniard win his second title.British sprinter Mark Cavendish won Sunday's 21st and final stage, along the Champs-Elysees in Paris, his sixth stage win this year.Contador finished a comfortable four minutes, 11 seconds ahead of Team Saxo Bank's Andy Schleck in the overall standings, solidifying his place as one of the Tour's most dominant competitors - and putting him in place to be Armstrong's successor as the perennial favorite. Then again, Armstrong might not be ready to pass him the mantle just yet.

Armstrong completed the race, which began in Monaco on the Fourth of July, five minutes, 24 seconds behind Contador, whom he declared the stronger rider and pledged to support as the race headed to Paris. In 2010, all bets are off.

After a year of playing the good soldier, Armstrong has announced he will bolt team Astana for his own newly-formed squad, Team RadioShack, for another run at yellow.Ads by Yahoo!EmailPrintRssShareDiggStumbleUponFacebookSee all share links >>Del.icio.usMixxRedditPropellerNewsvineFurl
