in Muncie around 7 p.m.

Friday night while employees were working the second shift.Witnesses state that Murphy, who was intoxicated, began taking tools off the walls and putting them in his pockets, in his shorts and under his tank top.

Witnesses, who didn't recognize Murphy and knew he wasn't an employee, say he then moved to the drill press and began trying to run it -- unsuccessfully.Murphy ran out of the building as he was approached by Maxon workers, leading them on a chase along 20th, 21st and 22nd streets between Madison and Elm streets.As he was running, the drunk and significantly weighed-down Murphy began removing the stolen tools from his pockets, shirt and shorts, tossing them on the sidewalk.A Muncie police officer who originally followed Murphy and the workers in his vehicle, then moved to chasing Murphy by foot.As Murphy continued to outrun the workers, an unidentified woman who was landscaping in her backyard threw a weed wacker at him, but missed.

The comedy routine came to a close as a police officer caught up with Murphy, who began to fight with the officer.Murphy was arrested at 7:45 p.m.

Friday night and was charged with burglary, theft, resisting law enforcement, battery on a police officer, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

There also was a warrant out on his arrest for failure to appear in court, a misdemeanor.
