SINN Fein has denied any rift over the leadership after Euro candidate Toireasa Ferris declared her party to be in crisis.Ms Ferris -- who nearly captured a surprise seat in Ireland South last month -- writes in the latest edition of 'An Phoblacht': "The party is suffering an identity crisis."Her father, Kerry North SF Deputy Martin Ferris, was unavailable for comment yesterday on the views of his daughter, a former mayor of Kerry.Ms Ferris suggested the party was seen as irrelevant to politics in the South.

She poses the questions: "What are we trying to achieve in the 26 counties and what do we stand for, besides a united Ireland? "We can't afford to wait any longer to answer these questions."Sinn Fein means nothing to the bulk of people in the South," the 29-year-old writes.

The party must return to being community activists, not politicians, she says.A spokeswoman for the Sinn Fein leadership said last night: "The publication is not reflective of a rift.

She has a particular view." - SENAN MOLONY
