Surf BreakThe buzz around town about the incoming swell seems to have everyone sitting on the edge of their seat.

The projected northwest swell, due to arrive this weekend has been downsized by surf forecasters over the past week.

Still, it is still expected to pack a punch beginning Friday afternoon and running through Monday morning, with waist- to head-high surf.

There is potential for overhead surf in the northwest-facing locations.

At 8 a.m.

Saturday, the 16th annual Santa Cruz Wharf to Capitola Wharf Paddle Race will begin.

There is no entry fee and the only requirement to enter this 5-mile race is that you must use an arm-powered water vehicle, such as a paddleboard or surfboard.

Finally, at 7 p.m.

AdvertisementTuesday, Clark Little will be narrating a slide show of his unique photography at the Dream Inn on West Cliff Drive.

Surfers, ocean lovers and fine arts aficionados will be treated to breathtaking images of Hawaiian surf on the big screen, followed by an opportunity to meet and talk to Little about his work.-- Neil Pearlberg
