SOUTHFIELD: Fireworks set to go off WednesdayThe Star Spangled Southfield Fireworks display is to be Wednesday.The event is to be held on the front lawn of the Southfield municipal complex, 26000 Evergreen, starting at 7 p.m.

with a police dog demonstration.

Hula dance demonstrations, music, skydivers and games are scheduled.Before the fireworks begin at about 10:10 p.m., there also is to be live music and a sing-along.For information, call 248-796-4620, 8 a.m.-7 p.m.

A man presented a note to a teller around 10 a.m.

Wednesday at the branch at 6465 Orchard Lake Road.The teller turned over an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

The suspect left.

No weapon was displayed and no one was hurt, police said.Police are looking for the suspect, a man about 40-50 years old, 5 feet 9, medium build with dark hair.

He was wearing a yellow rain slicker with the hood pulled up and sunglasses.WATERFORD: Man charged with fleeing police, assaultThe Oakland County Prosecutor's Office issued a warrant Wednesday against a 34-year-old Waterford man, who police said fled from officers Tuesday.Waterford police said the incident started when officers responded to a call on the 2000 block of Marwood Drive.

The man, who had been arguing with his father, drove away from the home, swerving toward officers and three patrol vehicles.Police said the man -- whose name was not released by police -- crashed his truck in Southfield and was taken into custody.He is charged with fleeing police, assault with a dangerous weapon and reckless driving.COMMERCE TOWNSHIP: Union Lake Road project completed; road openUnion Lake Road between Commerce and Richardson roads reopened Tuesday after the completion of a resurfacing project, according to a news release from the Road Commission for Oakland County.The road has been closed since mid-April.This was the last phase of an approximately $6-million project that included extending some center left-turn and right-turn lanes on Union Lake Road.Nearly 80% of the project's cost was paid for with federal funds.

The township provided $1 million and the road commission paid the rest, the news release said.
