The mayors of Hoboken and Secaucus, as well as several area rabbis, are among nearly 30 people arrested by federal authorities following a two-track probe involving public corruption and a high-volume, international money laundering conspiracy. Those arrested in the public corruption portion of the probe include 31-year-old Peter Cammarano III (far right in photo at left) -- who three weeks ago became Hoboken's youngest mayor -- as well as Secaucus Mayor Dennis Elwell, N.J.

Assemblyman Daniel Van Pelt, Jersey City Deputy Mayor Leona Beldini, and others.

Those arrested come from both sides of the political aisle. The investigation apparently began with Solomon Dwek, a real estate mogul whose parents founded the Deal Yeshiva, a Jersey Shore religious school that teaches Sephardic Jewish children.

Dwek apparently deposited a bad check for $25.2 million at a drive-through bank window, drawing the government's attention.

Before long, the mayors and others from up this way were involved.
