They're zipping through the sky, showing off some of the twists and turns you can expect to see at the show.

"There just nothing like it," stunt pilot Michael Wiskus said.

Wiskus has been hooked on flying ever since his dad took him to his first air show when he was 10 years old.

"I saw these planes flying, and I thought planes before were just to get into to go from point A to point B.

I had no idea you could go up and take off and roll it upside down at ten feet off the ground," Wiskus said.

Before Wiskus head into the air, he needs to know what's happening down on the ground.

"I'm hitting speeds up to 280, and then pulling vertical and stopping to zero and hovering.

You need to know the terrain.

You need to know the territory," Wiskus said.

Wiskus looks for things like high antennas that could get in his way.

"I'm right at the surface to about 800-1000 feet off the ground and that's it," Wiskus said.

Even after 35 years, this pilot practices about an hour a day -- Wiskus flies all kinds of aircraft.

"There's not one aspect of aviation I don't love, and I try to take all of it to its limits," Wiskus said.

But taking a plane up and then straight back down is a dangerous trick.

"We have our own little things and things that keep us safe," Wiskus said.

Wiskus even tapes his shoelaces down, so they don't get caught on anything in the cockpit.

"Once I sit down in that seat and I ratchet that seat belt to where I can barely breathe, I really become one with that airplane.

It's just an extension of me flying in the air.

It's my personality, it's my character, it's me," Wiskus said.

And Wiskus is looking forward to sharing that piece of himself with fans this weekend.Jennifer Trammell© 2009 KELOLAND TV.
