The parade, which begins at Market and Beale Streets and ends at Market and 8th Streets in downtown, is the highlight of the annual Pride week celebration. This year's theme, "In Order to Form a More Perfect Union," focuses on critical issues to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community, including the United States military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy and the on-going struggle for marriage rights in the state of California.Following the parade, visitors are invited to a large festival at Civic Center, which will feature hundreds of vendors, music artists and food. The 2009 celebration marks the 39th anniversary of the yearly event.Photo courtesy of KCBS reporter Chris Filippi.Copyright 2009, KCBS.
