INDIANAPOLIS -- Two Indiana boys spelled their way into the semifinals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee Wednesday.Vaibhav Vavilala, 14, of Indianapolis, and Kennyi Aouad, 13, of Terre Haute, are among 41 spellers to move on to the semifinals televised on ABC starting Thursday morning.Written test scores were combined with the oral rounds Wednesday to determine the semifinalists.Vavilala is in 8th grade at Creekside Middle School, and lists math, sports and music as his favorite activities.

He's taken part in the 2005, 2007 and 2008 national finals, tying for 17th place last year.Aouad, who is also in 8th grade, attends Otter Creek Middle School, where he plays clarinet and is a members of the Mathcounts team.

He made it to the national finals last year and in 2007, when, in a memorable moment, overcame the giggles to correctly spell sardoodledom.A dozen or so spellers will complete in the finals in prime time Thursday for a trophy that comes with more than $40,000 in cash and prizes.Vaibhav Vavilala and Kennyi AouadIndiana started with 15 children in the competition.
