CORPUS CHRISTI - Rumors about the closing of the Selena Boutique have circulated for weeks, and Monday, the family confirmed that the stories are true.

There is now one less stop on the unofficial Selena tour in the city.

KRIS 6 News heard about the possible closing for about a month now, and Monday, learned that it is not a relocation or a temporary shutdown.

The boutique is closed for good.

Selena's father, Abe Quintanilla, said that 14 years after her death, the time has come to close the doors of Selena's Boutique.

It is among countless other victims of a slow economy, but Abe added that the boutique was also outside of the main focus of "Q Productions".

He said their primary focus has always been on the music.

They only kept the boutique open out of respect for Selena because it was hers.

As for the merchandise inside, Abe said people can likely find some of it at the gift shop inside Selena's Museum at Q Productions on Leopard.

Other items could end up for sale on the Q Productions Web site.

The building itself is now for sale.

The realty company said they're already talking with a potential buyer, but they don't know what kind of business could take the place of the boutique.

The property is zoned as "neighborhood business", which includes a pretty wide variety of uses.
