The Military Families Group will hold a free class on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder July 28 at 6:30 p.m.

at the Triangle Baptist Church.

Heather Bergida, Ph.D., a clincal psychologist from the Raleigh Vet Center will teach soldiers and their family members about PTSD and she will have a question and answer session to discuss specific needs of class members.Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is an anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to a traumatic event.

Naturally, many soldiers returning from combat may have symptoms of this problem. The June class was very helpful to soldiers and their families, Military Families Group Coordinator Ronna Jones said."The class was very educational and non-threatening.

Bergida has a calming nature, making people feel comfortable asking her questions.

She relieved much of our fears," she said."Having information from an expert on how to cope, and strategies to use in dealing with our loved ones when they have an episode is liberating.

Knowing why they act out as they do, or why they have the different perspectives on life helps us to accept and manage it better."Classes will focus on common reactions after deployment (including post-traumatic stress reactions), communication challenges and strategies and coping with stress of deployments for service members and family at home.Jones said many do not realize family readiness groups are for more than spouses and children.

"Everyone is welcome, even friends," she said.More classes with Dr.

Bergida will be held Aug.
