This has just been posted on An accrediting agency has decided to revoke Paul Quinn College's accreditation, citing financial and other problems.

This decision certainly comes in sharp contrast to how Paul Quinn President Michael Sorrell assessed financial progress in his Viewpoints column last week:We have made tremendous progress in improving the financial condition of the college.

Through strict budgeting practices and extreme fiscal accountability, for the first time in 10 years, our audit showed no findings of noncompliance.

Moreover, in the last month, we have successfully removed well more than a million dollars in debt from our balance sheet.

When we close the books on the 2009 fiscal year, it will show a six-figure surplus achieved in the worst economy since the Great Depression.

Today's story quotes Belle Wheelan, president of the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, as saying: "He [Sorrell] made great progress.

He just didn't make enough progress." I blogged about this issue here and here in recent weeks.Read on for an update:
