Gloucester School Superintendent Christopher Farmer won unanimous approval for another year's performance as the schools' chief administrator at his annual performance review Wednesday by the Gloucester School Committee.Farmer scoring an overall average of 3.6 of a possible perfect 4.0 as well as positive feedback from all seven members. In 15 categories covering a broad range of skills and responsibilities, Farmer earned a perfect score of 4.0 in three areas: equity, budget and finance, and values and ethics. He also earned scores of 3.9 in policy and in technology, and scores ranging from 3.2 to 3.6 in most others, including governance, advocacy, communication and participation, accountability, professional development, and human resources/personnel.Mayor Carolyn Kirk, after commenting that his was her sixth annual involvement in a superintendent's evaluation process, commended Farmer for being consistent and for always being on top in the areas of budget and values/ethics."I so appreciate your professional education point of view," Kirk said.School Committee member Melissa Teixeira said it had been a pleasure doing the evaluation this year, unlike last year, when so much had to be done based on other people's opinions."I got to base it on my own experience this year," she said.School Committee member Michelle Sweet agreed."I just want to say I really admired how you represented the school district through the whole Charter School issue.

I think you're doing a great job," Sweet said.School Committee member Val Gilman said she felt Farmer had gone "above and beyond" his job description and had observed "tremendous mutual respect" between the superintendent and the School Committee in the last year.

She added that she hopes Farmer's stated goals for the coming year can be submitted to the committee earlier than they were last year, so work toward them can begin right away."It's continued to be a pleasure working with you," said School Committee member Amy Beth Healey.

"I appreciate all you have done.""You have a very difficult, high profile job," said School Committee Chairman Greg Verga.

"I'm proud to have been part of this review." He said it's easy for the public to see the missteps and the problems, but as a committee, "we get to see the behind-the-scenes hard work and dedication, and we certainly appreciate it."With unanimous approval, Verga and Teixeira will work on drawing up the new contract for the superintendent, to be approved and signed sometime in August.Farmer, just back from vacation, responded by thanking the committee for their time and efforts."Your expressed confidence in me reflects longer experience with each other," he said.

"It has been a privilege to work with such an extraordinary leadership team — not only yourselves but faculty, teachers, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, everyone across the district.

I appreciate enormously all your many efforts."
