(MYFOX NATIONAL) - An Iowa woman was rescued in dramatic fashion from the Des Moines River on Tuesday when some fast acting construction workers jumped into action. The construction crew went to rescue a man and woman when their small boat went over the Center Street Dam in Des Moines.A rescue boat wasn't able to get close enough to grab the woman.

So a construction worker wearing a harness was lowered down to the river with a crane.

He held on to the woman until the boat could pull her to safety."There [was] a boat floating down there and somebody was inside of it and then the boat broke to pieces.

We were trying to throw her ropes and life preservers and stuff," said construction worker Jason Oglesbee.

"She kept going under, and I mean it lasted about 30 minutes until my supervisor cleared all of our construction equipment out of here and he tracked the crane up there as close as he could get to the dam."Oglesbee was selected to get harnessed to the crane and lowered in to help the woman."He chained us off good and got a good operator in there and if he didn't give the OK to do it, I don't think she would have made it," continued Oglesbee.

"I just happened to have my harness on.

He had to have somebody with a harness, so I guess I was just the guy."She was ready to get out of there; she was tired.

I think she was in shock.

She said she couldn't even feel her hands and I just told her to hang on tight and I won't let go.

That's all I know.

The crane dragged her to the boat and the boat hauled her away."Once on land, the woman was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

The man was not as fortunate.

He was pronounced dead after his body was pulled from the river.
