Most Houston Business Journal readers who responded to the latest Business Pulse Survey agreed with a Texas A&M University study that ranked Houston as the ninth-worst city for traffic.More than 1,100 readers weighed in on the question of whether or not Houston's traffic was bad, with 66 percent saying "yes" and 29 percent saying "no.""Get on the 405 in Los Angeles during rush hour.

Houston traffic is a breeze," wrote one reader."I lived in Austin for 10 years ...

Houston's traffic is not that bad compared to Austin's," wrote another.Reader Shari Greer commented that in her opinion the traffic here wasn't so bad, but for a not-so-good reason.

"If it is any better lately it's because so many people are unemployed.

They don't drive in traffic because they have nowhere to go," she wrote.Others thought traffic on some roads has improved, including Interstate 10 and U.S.

59, but "U.S.

290 is a nightmare and getting worse," wrote Angela Gonzalez.Readers also gave their opinions on what they thought would help improve matters.

They included:• "Drive friendly."• "The one area that can and should be addressed, as has been expressed already, is the synchronization of the surface street lights.

Another area that could make traveling during rush hour easier is reducing the mandatory speed limit through the city to 35 mph."• "Traffic lights that stayed green for more than three seconds would help; having the left turn lanes go first then the forward lanes."• "If people would slow down and not change lanes quickly, traffic would improve dramatically in Houston.

We all just need to pretend we are driving on a half inch of ice."The Business Pulse Survey is a nonscientific poll of Houston Business Journal readers.
