- A divided Michigan House has voted to force the state to sell 475 acres of public land in northern Michigan to a golf course developer despite opposition from the Department of Natural Resources.

Democratic-sponsored legislation approved 74-35 Thursday next heads to the Republican-led Senate.

The conveyance of the property in Iosco County would bring an unknown amount of money to the state.

For many years, golf course and resort developer Boyd Aldrige has wanted to buy the parcel near his existing resort.

The state does not want to lose the land used for public recreation, timber production and wildlife.

The developer says he wants to build a replica of the St.

Andrews golf course in Scotland, boosting Michigan tourism.

------ The golf bill is House Bill 5058.
