PGA Tour Golf: Travelers Championshipwritten June 29, 2009 by TRAVELLERS CHAMPIONSHIP TPC River Highlands,Cromwell Conn.

A stacked up leaderboard as Paul Goydos started the last round at 16 under, 1 shot ahead of Kenny Perry and 2 of David Toms.Beautiful day for golf, the leaders will need to make some birdies to resist the charge of the young guns lurking just a few shots behind. The course is in perfect condition and the soft greens allow the players to attack almost every hole.

As I am watching and reporting Perry is my favorite over Goydos who has found himself in a position to win several times this season but seems to have a hard time to close up.

After an unexpected birdie at the 7th Goydos makes the unforced error at the 8th,a bogey 5,Perry birdies the hole and takes a 2 shots lead.

Scott Verplank shot 62 in his last round to post 15 under, best score in the clubhouse, but that will not be good enough.

Perry and Goydos par the 9th,though there could have been a 2 shots swing=2 0the other way as Perry's putt for par caught the right lip to drop and G oydos missed a shorter one for birdie.

WOW!! Another 2 shots swing at the 10th gives Perry a 4 shots lead, sorry 3 over Toms who just birdied 11th to take 2nd place alone.

One more birdie at the 11th could do it for Perry as he can easily reach the par 5 # 13 and the short par 4 #15.Toms would have to eagle the par 5 and birdie 3 or 4 more holes to put any kind of pressure on the leader.

John Merrick,Ben Curtis and David Toms moved to 17 under,3 off Perry who layed up at the 13thand failed to birdie the par 5.

Toms with a 3 at the 15th got to 18 under, second alone with 3 holes to play and 2 shots of the lead. However Perry also made 3 to regain a 3 shots advantage at 21 under.

Goydos, the last to tee up at the 15th,made the putt from the fringe for an eagle 2 .He is now in a tie for 3rd place and scores another 2 at 16 to be alone in 3rd at 18 under.

Les than a minute later Toms birdies the par 3 16th and again is 2 shots behind. He has a very important putt at 17 to get within 1 of Perry. He just failed tomake it so Perry is 2 shots clear with 2 holes to go.

3 perfect shots at 17 gave Perry a birdie and he is 3 ahead of Toms playing 18.Goydos birdies 18 to finish 2,2,4,3 the last 4 holes and tie Toms for second.

Perry pars, ending the tournament with a round of 63, 258 aggregate,a record 22 under which stood at 20 under.

That will no make up for the heart breaking loss at the Masters earlier this year when he had a 2 shots lead with 2 to play and bogeyed 17 and 18 to lose in a playoff to Angel Cabrera but that makes it the most prolific winner in the past twelve months with 5,ahead even of Tiger Woods. Not bad for a 48 years old man.

Lucas Glover,who won the U.S.

Open last week, kept up his good play to finish tie for 11 at 14 under par.

Next week we will be at the AT&T National,Congressional Country Club,Maryland hosted by Tiger Woods.

Anthony Kim,the defending champion, finisheded tied 11 today at The Travellers.
