Hampton Roads Traffic July 2, 2009 10:15 am If you are driving to Hampton Roads today, keep an eye on a developing traffic situation at the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel.

The westbound half of the bridge (the part leading away from Virginia Beach and Norfolk, into Hampton) is closed due to a malfunctioning water pump, and there is a 14-mile backup with severe traffic congestion spreading throughout the area.

Read VDOT's release on the situation here.

The bridge has been closed to westbound traffic since 7 a.m.

Motorists are being detoured to Interstate 64 East to Interstate 264 to Interstate 664 North to the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel.
