Pinta Island tortoise-Giant Galapagos tortoises-Rarest Animal:This Galapagos Tortoise was found alone in 1972 on Pinta Island and brought immediately to the Charles Darwin Research Station.A last member of its kind (Geochelone elephantopus abingdoni), a male tortoise was found alone on his home Galapagos Island Pinta in the early seventies.Pinta Island tortoise is a turtle that can be considered as one of the few species of Giant Galapagos tortoises and the rarest animal in the world.

According to Yahoo Answer, there is only one Pinta Island tortoise left alive so far.Lonesome George is the sole surviving member of the Pinta Island Tortoise race, the giant tortoise being a symbol for the fragility of the Galapagos islands, and a constant reminder for vigilance and conservation of the species
