Milford Haven Coastguard launched a rescue operation at 4am this morning in response to a MAYDAY from the French fishing vessel Tourmalet with seven people on board.
At 3.52am Milford Haven Coastguard received a MAYDAY call from the crew of Tourmalet reporting that they had a serious fire in the engine room and required assistance. The vessel was 16 miles West of St Davids Head in the Irish Sea.
St Davids Head RNLI Lifeboat was launched and several other vessels in the area responded to the Coastguard radio broadcast asking for assistance, including the ferry Isle of Inishmore and French fishing vessels in the area.
Milford Haven Coastguard established that there were no injuries and the crew hoped that the fire, which was electrical, had been contained in the engine room. Isle of Inishmore stood by the vessel until other vessels arrived on scene.
St Davids Head RNLI Lifeboat reached the vessel shortly after 5am and the vessel Tourmalet was towed to Milford Haven.
