Fewer people will travel over the holiday weekend this year despite a recent drop in gas prices, a AAA Texas press release said Thursday.The number of travelers from the West South Central region, which includes Texas, according to the release, will decline 3.1 percent compared with last year.

Of the reported 3.2 million Texans traveling, 2.8 million plan to drive."Recent travel surveys anticipate the lower prices for gasoline are not expected to have a major impact on the number of people traveling over the Fourth of July holiday," said Sarah Schimmer, a AAA Texas spokesperson.Gas prices have seen a nearly $1.50 decrease from last summer.

The average price per gallon of regular unleaded gas in Dallas is $2.48 this week compared with $3.95 one year ago.

Regular unleaded gas prices in Fort Worth are at $2.46 compared to $3.94 last year, according to the release.Gas in Texas remains 14 cents below the national average, at $2.49.

A week ago the Texas gas price average was $2.53.

Nationally, the price of regular unleaded is at $2.63.
