Floods caused by the heaviest rains ever recorded in North Korea have destroyed more than 11 per cent of the country's farmland, official media reported on Wednesday. The severe weather, which has left hundreds dead and at least 200,000 people homeless, came at the height of the impoverished country's growing season.

Rainfall along parts of the Taedong River was the "largest ever in the history" of measurements taken by the country's weather agency, the official KCNA news agency said.
