TV Guy: Moon to Earth: Watch out below!Text Size: A | A | APrint this Article Email this ArticleRespond to this ArticleBy Kevin McDonoughFor the Times Herald-RecordPosted: June 21, 2009 - 6:00 AMHow would you respond to events that are quite literally earth-shattering? The two-part summer miniseries "Impact" (9 p.m., ABC, concludes next Sunday) asks us to imagine life on Earth after a violent meteor shower rips apart the moon and sends it on a collision course toward Earth.Fortunately, there are two very attractive astrophysicists on the job, Alex Kittner (David James Elliott), the strong-jawed and recently widowed father of two, and Maddie Rhodes (Natasha Henstridge), an old friend of Alex, who, like this movie, finds it difficult to gauge the relative importance of things.

Should she be worried about the imminent destruction of the planet? Or be happy that Alex is single again?Maddie's conundrum is small potatoes compared to that faced by meteorite expert Roland Emerson (Benjamin Sadler), whose nagging fiancee just won't let the prospect of human extinction stand in the way of her wedding plans! Neither cheesy enough to be campy fun nor credible enough to take seriously, this mini leaves no impact at all.

Don't go looking for beards, long hats and dusty owls in the new incarnation of "Merlin" (8 and 9 p.m., NBC, TV-PG).This action-fantasy summer series follows the wizard as a young man (Colin Morgan) and features a young, attractive cast portraying the teenage versions of the Knights of the Round Table and other Arthurian characters.

Should we call him the "Lil Wizard" or Merlin 2.0? A murder mystery set in the frothy world of fashion seems so obvious as to be overdue.

"Psyche" star Maggie Lawson stars as a fashion writer/investigative reporter in "Killer Hair" (8 p.m., Lifetime Movie Network).

Her character's name, Lacey Smithsonian, shows the tongue-in-cheek approach to mystery franchises based on the novels of Ellen Byerrum.

Combine her whimsical moniker with Lawson's uncanny resemblance to Alicia Silverstone, and it's a case of "Clue" meets "Clueless." Mark Consuelos and Mary McDonnell co-star.

Lacey Smithsonian returns next week to solve the mystery of "The Hostile Makeover." David Suchet returns as Poirot and Julia McKenzie will portray Miss Marple in six Agatha Christie mysteries running on "Masterpiece Mystery" (9 p.m., PBS), airing weekly through July 26.

Tonight: "Poirot: Cat Among the Pigeons." Highlights tonight Repeat reports scheduled on "60 Minutes" (7 p.m., CBS): a new kind of maximum security prison; Mexico's violent drug war; Lebron James.

Naturalist and TV veteran Sir David Attenborough narrates "Charles Darwin and the Tree of Life" (7 p.m., BBC America), a celebration of the importance of Darwin's theories and discoveries on the 200th anniversary of his birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of "On the Origin of the Species." It's so long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye for some contestants on the British musical competition "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?" (8 p.m., BBC America).

"Exodus Earth" (9 p.m., Science) looks at the possibility of leaving the planet permanently to seek a new home in space and the harsh conditions such pioneers would face.

"Somali Pirate Takedown: The Real Story" (10 p.m., Discovery) recalls the seizure of the American container ship the Maersk Alabama and the dramatic rescue of its crew.
