Billy Mays (AP Photo)Florida authorities have confirmed that infomercial pitchman Billy Mays — whose loud voice and hyper personality made OxiClean a household word — was found dead in his Tampa, Florida, home this morning, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times. His wife, Deborah Mays, found him.

Police said there were no signs of foul play, but an autopsy was scheduled for Monday afternoon to determine the cause of death.

Mays released a statement saying:Although Billy lived a public life, we don't anticipate making any public statements over the next couple of days.

Our family asks that you respect our privacy during these difficult times."Star of the Discovery Channel show, "Pitchman," Billy Mays got his start as a vendor on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, according to the New York Daily News.

Earlier this month, he told the newspaper:With every product you see me on TV with, I've turned down 100, 150 more.

I've been on TV for 11 years, and all I have is my good name.I compare myself to a big-league slugger, a quarterback, the doctor who delivers the baby.

I'm not an inventor, but I'll take your product to the next level."The Discovery Channel issued a statement saying:Everyone [who knew] him was aware of his larger-than-life personality, generosity and warmth.

Billy was a pioneer in his field … He will be greatly missed as a loyal and compassionate friend.

Our deepest sympathies go out to his family at this time of incredible loss."As do ours.

RIP Billy Mays.
