More than gems were sparkling during Wednesday night's fourth annual Jeans, Jewels & Jazz benefit for Cancer Caring Center.

The setting sun on the Golden Triangle made a brilliant backdrop for the bash atop Mount Washington at the magnificent home of Steven Herforth and Peter Karlovich. The couples, vanishing-edge pool and fire pit drew guests like moths to the flame, but those who could tear themselves away from that perfect setting found several more places to party.

People were on every terrace and room in the house, accompanied by the sounds of the Kenny Blake Trio and Chizmo Charles.

Chinese auction and silent auction items were displayed throughout.

Jeffrey Leonard chaired the event with help from committee members including Robin Beruh, Victoria Berdnik, Kyle Prawdzik and Eric Hess.Among the restaurants that donated a variety of savory and sweet treats were Shiloh Street Grill, Nine On Nine, Mark's Grille and Catering and Coca Cafe.

Sponsoring the soiree on the mount were John Miclot, Lamar Advertising and Thermo Fisher Scientific and Philips Respironics."We are so grateful for our generous sponsors and those who came out to party tonight," said Cancer Caring executive director Rebecca Whitlinger. The party marked the center's 21 years of support to cancer patients and their families through programs that address the emotional impact of a diagnosis, including yoga, individual and couples counseling, stress management and pet therapy.Enjoying cocktails and cool jazz were Lorraine Navoney, Mark Wells, Stan and Kathie Geier, Tom Schneider, Anne Haseltine, Beth Ann Fuhrer, Joe and Babe Gordon, BJ Leber, Bob and Marylou Stef-anko, Holly Planinsic, Rick and Natalie Domhoff and Mary Prezioso.First published on June 30, 2009 at 7:11 am
