I have read President Obama's statement today, made before gay rights leaders.

I also watched Lt.

Col.

Victor Fehrenbach who appeared on Rachel (hosted tonight by Alison Stewart).

My reaction and Col.

Fehrenback's (which is far more important) are about the same.

President Obama made a convincing and sincere presentation of advocacy for gay rights.

I was particularly struck by his empathetic statement I know that many in this room don't believe that progress has come fast enough, and I understand that.

It's not for me to tell you to be patient, any more than it was for others to counsel patience to African Americans who were petitioning for equal rights a half century ago.Ultimately, I think that we all want to believe that President Obama will fulfill his promises to the community.

That said.

I remain concerned, but hopeful, about the status of Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

President Obama concurs that a repeal of DADT is in our national security interests.

As I said before -- I'll say it again -- I believe "don't ask, don't tell" doesn't contribute to our national security.

In fact, I believe preventing patriotic Americans from serving their country weakens our national security.Mr.

Obama hit all the right notes on "Defense of Marriage," ENDA and hate crimes legislation.

Nothing will be done fast enough to suit us and that's a good thing.

In politics, nothing comes to those who wait.

Indeed, I think that we pushed some of the right buttons recently.

We just need to keep pushing them until we achieve equal protection under the law.Bookmark/Search this post with: Email this pageThank you for your interest in spreading the word on Tips-Q.NOTE: We only request your email address so that the person you are recommending the page to knows that you wanted them to see it, and that it is not junk mail.
