In Houston�on June 22 97.9 The Box, The Houston Department of Health and Human Services, AIDS Foundation Houston, and other organizations came together�and�is currently holding�what was hopefully be the biggest and most successful�HIV and syphilis screening in the country.The event, which has been named Hip Hop For HIV Awareness,�hopes to bring out�thousands of�people between the ages of 15 and 40 to be tested for HIV and syphilis.

Testing began on Monday, June 22 and continue until Thursday, June 25 while testing hours are from 7 a.m.

to 10 p.m.As an added bonus people who are tested will receive a free ticket to a star-studded concert that will take place on July 11 at the George R.

Brown Convention Center in Houston.

Performers expected to come out to the concert include Melanie Fiona, Plies, Twista, Day 26, and more.

Only those have been tested will be allowed into the concert.

Over the past few years HIV has become a growing epidemic in the African American community.

African Americans along with women and youth are the fastest growing cases of new HIV infections And according to statistics released by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) last year 2.6% of African-American men and 1.5% of African-American women were HIV positive.For more information on the concert and to find out screening times and locations visit
